Roc de Cambes is a premier wine producer from the Cotes de Bourg appellation in Bordeaux. The château was purchased by François Mitjavile, owner of Saint-Emilion´s esteemed Château Le Tetre-Rôtebouef, in 1988 and is known as one of the top estates from its appellation. It produces a Merlot-based Bordeaux blendand a second wine, Domaine de Cambes, that is sold as Bordeaux AOC.

The vineyards are situated on south-facing slopes near the Gironde, and cover 12 hectares (30 acres) of land. Vines are planted to deep clay-limestone soils and are close to 50 years of age. Merlot comprises well over a half of the total plantings at around 75 percent, followed by Cabernet Sauvignon andCabernet Franc.

Tasting Note:
Tom Atkins 93 points!
One of the superstar châteaux of the Bordeaux Côtes, François Mitjavile´s red is always a wine with plenty of texture and concentration, not to mention alcohol in 2012. This is intense, aromatic and plush, with raspberry aromas, a hint of leafy complexity, a rich, complex texture and firmish tannins.Drink: 2020-28

Tasting Note:
Wine Advocate 92 points!
Interesting comparing the Roc des Cambes with the Tertre-Roteboeuf, for here there is a little more drive and intensity on the nose, more volume emanating from the glass with pomegranate and cranberry scents intermingling with fresh gravel notes. The palate is soft and sensual on the entry with layers of fleshy red berry fruit. The tannins have a Burgundy-like finesse and there is a lovely touch of Schezhuan pepper numbing the tip of the tongue on the finish. This will be a fascinating Roc des Cambes. Tasted April 2013.
